Caught in a storm of ashen rain in the chaos of a volcanic eruption, Michaela Lola realized at the tender age of eight that life was meant to be an adventure.  Her escapades include riding the midnight train to Marrakesh, partying with the katoys in Thailand and sampling insects in China.

Armed with a Master's Degree in the Humanities and a passion for travel and literature, she set off to document the pleasures and challenges that come with wandering the world.  Ms. Abrera has worked as a production assistant in a San Francisco-based  publishing house, created a Berlin City Guide for mydaytrip.com and has written for several print and online travel publications.

Michaela Lola Abrera has lived in the Philippines, Hawaii, San Francisco and Berlin.

Her travels include:

The U.S.A., the U.K., the Netherlands, the Philippines, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), China, Morocco, Singapore, Sweden

Though a current resident of Berlin, she is on the lookout for her next expedition.

This intrepid traveler strives to live by the words of Salman Rushdie who said:

"Go for broke. Always try and do too much. Dispense with safety nets. Take a deep breath before you begin talking. Aim for the stars. Keep grinning. Be bloody-minded. Argue with the world. And never forget that writing is as close as we get to keeping a hold on the thousand and one things--childhood, certainties, cities, doubts, dreams, instants, phrases, parents, loves--that go on slipping , like sand, through our fingers.
